Default External Storage
External storage (also called auxillary storage) is any storage other than main memory. In modern times this is mostly hard drives and removeable media (such as floppy disks, Zip disks, optical media, etc.). With the advent of USB and FireWire hard drives, the line between permanent hard drives and removeable media is blurred. Other kinds of external storage include tape drives, drum drives, paper tape, and punched cards. Random access or indexed access devices (such as hard drives, removeable media, and drum drives) provide an extension of memory (although usually accessed through logical file systems). Sequential access devices (such as tape drives, paper tape punch/readers, or dumb terminals) provide for off-line storage of large amounts of information (or back ups of data) and are often called I/O devices (for input/output).

What I feel is that external memory are becoming lot more popular among youths. Generally they transfer, movies, songs among their friends. With the event of external hard disks, it is gaining a rapid popularity.

USB storage is external memory, right? And the movable hard disk is external storage, right? One time I was thinking to update hard disk of my laptop from 2GB to 4GB, my uncle said it's expensive, I could use smaller amount to buy a movable hard disk to connect with USB, when I need maybe I'll do that, just think it's not so easy though, every time need to connect the USB, really better to have it inside, hehe.

I guess you both are talking about the USB storage thing? I also have it for myself, keep it in the handbag every day, whenever I need, I could use it to save something, quite useful and easy to carry...

Hmm, I have a question here, what's difference between USB storage or external harddisk? For using USB there's no requirement for the computer, and for external harddisk there's need of compatability, have to buy harddisk usable for the computer, am I right?

I guess it's some device which provides memory storage service, which could be connected to the computer, by USB port etc., like movable hard disk, I don't have it at all, do use a USB storage widget though, just for 2GB, not too big, hehe...
