Thread: Facebook & Koobface infections

Facebook according to some stats counts with 120 million users registered (and growing) so why not develop a "targeted" virus (or worm to be exact) in order to reach these 120M users?. Well that's the history of Koobface (full name : Net-Worm.Win32.Koobface.b).

Net-Worm.Win32.Koobface.b creates spam messages and sends them to the infected users' friends via the Facebook site. The messages and comments include texts such as Paris Hilton Tosses Dwarf On The Street; Examiners Caught Downloading Grades From The Internet; Hello; You must see it!!! LOL. My friend catched you on hidden cam; Is it really celebrity? Funny Moments and many others.

The Koobface worm was first identified in August but it appears to have been altered to hit the social networking site only.
Facebook insisted only a "very small percentage of users" had been affected but in the past day, hundreds of media workers in Boston alone have received infected emails.
The virus spreads by sending enticing messages to Facebook friends with subject headers such as "Look you were filmed all naked!" or "You look just awesome in this movie".

Wow, this is terrible... I'm also a member of facebook, fortunately that I haven't been attacked by this kind of things yet... I don't open any anonymous things, especially those xxxx pics or news, coz I am conservative kind, and I do believe people like to create this kind of things to attract interest and spam others...

Keep updated your Antivirus, run it frequently, never download unknown files, never grant access to sensitive info to others, keep updated your browser, change from time to time your passwords and never use same passwords for multiple accounts / sites and you'll be safe...

Ok thanks for the tips... After losing my account in liberty reserve, I'm more careful now, also sometimes I got email in hotmail, sent from my own mail address in yahoo! This is weird and terrible, I do wonder why the hacker did this to me?

opss, i always using same password for my email accoutn and also other registration.
i think at least i should change my email password right??
luckily so far no hacker interested on my account

Why they are interested in facebook members' data? Wanna send some spam emails to them? I think we don't give any sensitive information out there except email address? I didn't give my phone number, post address etc. in facebook, so it's just ok for me I think... :)
